    🌶️ Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make Mangonada labeled and sitting on a surface.
    • Ripe mangoes
    • Lime juice
    • Ice
    • Mango juice
    • Fresh mango cut into small chunks for topping (optional)
    • Sugar
    • Chamoy sauce
    • Tajin

Here, we’re using fresh mangoes. Swap out for frozen mangoes. Thaw slightly before blending.

Mango juice or sometimes called mango nectar.

    🥣 Instructions

Rimming a glass with chamoy and Tajin.
    • Pour 2 tablespoon of chamoy to one small plate.
    • Add 2 teaspoon tajin into another plate.

Rim the glasses first. That way the mango mixture does not thaw too much.

Chamoy acts as a binder, or glue, for the chile powder.

A rimmed glass with chamoy and Tajin.
    • Rim your glass with chamoy.
    • Dip in the tajin until the rim is coated completely.
    • Set the glasses aside while you’re making the mango mixture.

    🎉 Party Time!

This is a huge party hit! Advice to the host or hostess, prepare the glasses first. As your guests arrive, pour the drink into the glasses. Serve and enjoy!

Blending fresh mango and ice in a blender.
    • To a blender, add the chopped ripe mango, sugar, mango juice, lime juice and ice cubes.
    • Blend until smooth and slushie/smoothie consistency.

    Sugar Substitutes

Instead of sugar, you can use honey or agave syrup. Piloncillo or monk fruit are also great substitutes. My advice is to add a little of the substitute then taste and adjust as you see fit. If you’ve added too much sweetener, pour a splash of water to reduce the sweetness.

Preparing a rimmed glass of Mangonada.
    • Place a tablespoon of diced mango into your glass with a drizzle of chamoy.
    • Then add the frozen mango mixture.

Do not confuse this drink with Mango Agua Fresca. The latter is made with mango, water, and sugar. It’s not frozen and not spicy.

Two rimmed glasses of mangonada topped with fresh fruit and a sprinkle of Tajin.
    • Finish by adding small chunks of mango and a sprinkle of Tajin or more chamoy.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!

    🍹 Cocktail Time

This is the non-alcoholic version, but for the adults, you can add a shot of tequila or vodka.

A Mangonada (or mango chamoyada) served in a glass with two straws.

    👩🏼‍🍳 Pro Tips

    • Add some texture and fun with tamarind straws and tamarind candy.
    • Pour in the mixture in layers.
    • Want to reduce the heat? Swap out chamoy with lime, and rim the glass with a mixture of Tajin and sugar.
    • Only use ripe mangoes to make this drink. That’s why using frozen mangoes might be best. The fruit is picked and frozen when it’s ripe.

    🫙 Storing

Place any leftovers in an ice cube tray. Store in the freezer. When ready to serve, remove from the tray, thaw slightly, and blend until smooth. Then serve in Tajin rimmed glasses.

A served glass of mangonada topped with a spring of mint and next to lime wedges.
