    • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
    • ¼ cup water
    • Whole Cinnamon stick

    Alcohol

    • 4ounces vodka (or white tequila)
    • 2 ounces Cointreau liqueur

    Fruit Juices

    • juice of 1 grapefruit
    • juice of 1 pomegranate (or use store-bought pomegranate juice)
Collage of three images showing ginger syrup preparation: Top left shows sliced ginger on a cutting board. Top right has ginger and spices in a pot with water being poured in. Bottom shows the mixture simmering with cinnamon sticks.

How To Make The Ginger Syrup

    • Slice the ginger without peeling it.
    • Add water, sugar, cinnamon stick and ginger to a small saucepan.
    • Place over medium heat until it boils. Once the mixture boils, reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
    • Allow to cool completely before preparing the cocktail.
Orange juice is being poured into a glass pitcher, placed on a wooden slab. A small, frosted pinecone and a white sphere are beside the pitcher. The background is a textured light surface.

    For the Juices:

    • Juice 3 oranges and 1 grapefruit in a juicer.
    • Squeeze the juice of 1 pomegranate, if using fresh pomegranate.
    • Strain the citrus juice so that there is no residue of the fruit.

In a jug or shaker, mix the vodka, liqueur, and citrus juices. Add more vodka if needed to your taste.

Three empty hexagonal glasses on a wooden surface next to a pinecone and a white sphere. In the adjacent image, one glass is filled with brown liquid as a red liquid is poured into it.

    Assemble the Cocktail Shots

    • Choose a shot glass. Add a tablespoon of the ginger syrup.
    • Add ¼ cup or a little more of the vodka with the citrus juice mixture.
    • Finally, add a teaspoon or two of pomegranate juice.

How much to add depends on the glass you’ve chosen. Just be sure to add a little of everything in each glass.

Glasses of festive punch with cinnamon sticks on a wooden tray, surrounded by pine cones, green fir branches, oranges, and holiday lights in the background.
    • Add a cinnamon stick to each cup.
    • Before drinking the cocktail, stir with the cinnamon stick.

Serve unstirred. I think it looks pretty to see all the different colors in the glass.

    How To Make A Pitcher

Simply add all the ingredients to a pitcher and stir. Serve and top with a cinnamon stick. It won’t have the colorful effect but still delicious.
