Mexican Fruit Cups is what I crave on hot days. Sweet and juicy. DELICIOUS!
Fruit is different in Mexico. It is picked ripe and full of flavor.
In the US, it’s a different story, the fruit is picked still green and ripens as it travels to get to the grocery stores.
Ripe fruit sprinkled with enough chile powder to create that sweet and spicy effect. Oh, yes please!

The fruit is then drizzled with lime juice and dusted off with chile powder.
Depending on where you go, some people will also add Chamoy.
You’ll see fruit vendors pushing carts throughout the streets or plazas, selling this very popular snack.
Types of Fruit
The cups are made up of an assortment of fruit. Most typically you’ll find…
- Pineapple
- Cucumber
- Mango
- Cantaloupe
- Watermelon
- Coconut
- Jicama
Use all or a combination of these fruits when making this at home.
The end product is something incredibly yummy, refreshing, and full of nutrients.
Drizzle with lime.
The lime will help the chile powder stick to the fruit.
Lime is a very popular ingredient in Mexican cooking. You can easily swap out for yellow lemon instead.
What is Tajin?
Tajin is a very popular brand of chile powder used to make these fruit cups.
Made of chile powder, dried lime zest, and combination of other spices. It’s tangy and spicy.
In case you can’t find it at your local grocery store, get it here.
It is often found in candy.
Pro Tip
Instead of salt for cocktails, try using Tajin for an extra kick.
Another Mexican treat worth trying are these yummy cocadas!
