Anti inflammatory tea in a decorative blue mug.

This Anti-Inflammatory Tea recipe is made every single day at my house.

My tía (or aunt) gave me the recipe years ago because my knees were in serious pain.

She is constantly reading on medical trends and natural treatments. She is my go-to source when my son has a cold, or I’m not feeling well.

If I don’t drink this tea, I notice a difference. It has helped my knee pain tremendously.

A picture of the ingredients needed to make the tea on a cutting board.

    Here are the ingredients needed.

Turmeric root, ginger root, and a cinnamon stick. Root form for these three ingredients is preferred.

However, you can substitute for ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder or ½ teaspoon ginger powder and ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder.

    Advice from My Tía:

    • This tea is a great remedy for rheumatoid arthritis, general inflammation in the body, even digestive issues.
    • It is NOT good for people who have hypertension, diabetic, and those taking other medication.
    • Please consult with a doctor if you are taking medication before drinking this tea.
    • Must be drunk warm and in the morning before anything else.

The pencil is shown here as a reference point. Measure about an inch for each ingredient.

This is a fat piece of ginger.

Peel the turmeric root and ginger before boiling.

    Benefits of Turmeric

It has been scientifically proven to improve heart health, prevent Alzheimer’s and cancer. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredient that is often used to relieve pain and may also improve arthritis. Read More.

    • Place everything in a pot and cover with water.
    • Boil for 5 minutes.

    Other Natural Remedies:

Mexicans living in rural areas, for the most part, do not have access to doctors like those living in the city. That’s why natural remedies are abundant in our culture.

My mom’s Oregano Tea provides good immune support for when you have the flu.

Her Bougainvillea Tea is also a great natural cough remedy.

And… when you’re trying to feel better, there’s nothing like a big bowl of Mexican Chicken Soup.

A pot with ginger, tumeric, and cinnamon stick.
    • Turn off the heat.
    • Let this steep for a few minutes.

    Additional Ingredients:

To make it sweet, add a tablespoon of honey.

Lemon is also a good addition but not necessary.

How to Remove Turmeric Stain on Skin:

Rub with lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide. Soak, if able to.

Then wash with warm water. If necessary, repeat until the stain is completely gone.

Hand holding a blue and white mug next to a plant.

Let the Anti-Inflammatory Tea cool down slightly before drinking.

I’ve also noticed that it also helps with any digestive issues I might have. It is best to drink warm and in the morning before anything else.

Why is it not good for diabetics?

According to my tia, it can interfere with medications. She advises to consult with your doctor first.

Whenever I drink this, I definitely notice the difference. I used to study with an Ayurvedic doctor but this tea never came up in our conversations. Great natural relief for sure.

Thank you! Yes, my aunt got this recipe from an Ayurvedic doctor who studied in India. Glad it helps you too.

It might interfere with your current medication. Talk to your doctor to see if you can take it.

When using dried turmeric/cinnamon….do you boil water then add the dry ingredients? I read directions, add the dry ingredients to bring water to boil. The teapot over boiled and I have a mess on my stove. Can I bring the water to boil, add dry ingredients, remove from heat and let steep for five minutes?

I don’t recommend using dried. Ground cinnamon and tumeric never blends well. They tend to stay on the bottom of the cup. BUT, I have been out of fresh ingredients too. Add the dried ingredients after it’s boiling. Let it steep for five minutes. Hope you enjoy!

You might try putting the dried spices in a tea bag and steep them.

You might try putting dried spices in a teabag to steep in the boiling water.
