How to Make It
Above are the ingredients you need to make this recipe. Only thing missing is ¼ cup water.
Any time you see a dish with the words “a la mexicana” in the title, they are referring to three ingredients.
- Jalapeno (or serrano peppers)
- Tomatoes
- Onion
Green, white, and red colors like the Mexican flag.
One way to make this recipe faster is to use premade Pico de Gallo.
- Rinse and pat dry the pork chops.
- Season the pork chops with salt, pepper, oregano, and cumin.
Pat drying the pork chops will give your meat a good sear. This will really lock in the flavors.
The best thing about using pork chops, you can always find them at the grocery store. This cut of pork was made for family meals.
- Sear the chops on both sides.
- About 4-5 minutes on each side.
Don’t skip this step. It adds TONS of flavor to your final dish.
Pork chops come from pork loin which is the leanest part of the pig.
You can even get an entire pork loin and break it down into individual cuts. Put the different cuts into multiple meals. Talk about a HUGE value!
- Remove the pork chops from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the tomatoes, onion, and jalapeno to the skillet.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes.
We are making this in a regular skillet, but try using boneless pork chops or boneless pork loin and adding the “a la mexicana” ingredients into a slow cooker.
Slow Cooker Cooking Instructions:
6 hours on High.
8 hours on Low.
The end result will be tender meat and a savory tomato sauce. YUM!
- Once the tomato mixture starts to thicken up.
- Add the water.
- Stir to combine and bring to simmer.

- Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until pork is fully cooked.

Chuletas a la Mexicana (or Mexican-Style Pork Chops)
Ingredients
- 4 pork chops bone-in
- 1 tablespoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground pepper
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin
- ⅛ teaspoon ground oregano
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tomatoes diced
- ¼ onion diced
- 1 garlic clove diced
- 1 serrano pepper finely minced
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
- Rinse and pat dry the pork chops.
- Season both sides with salt, pepper, cumin, and oregano.
- Heat oil in a large skillet.
- Sear the pork chops on all sides.
- About 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Remove from the skillet.
- Add the tomatoes, onion, and serrano pepper.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Stir occasionally.
- Add the water and mix to combine.
- Return the pork chops to the skillet.
- Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until pork is fully cooked.
