That toasted tortilla base puts a smile on my face. 😃 You’re going to want to regularly make this at home.

My son loves it as an after school snack. Or serve with some eggs for breakfast.

Who needs avocado toast when you can have something much yummier and crunchier?!

    🥑 Make the Guacamole:

Mashing avocado with a fork in a bowl.
    • Add avocado to a bowl and mash it with a fork.

From the chunky guacamole to the crisp tortilla base, every bite is an explosion of flavor. For a smoother consistency, use an immersion blender.

Swap out for a creamy Salsa de Aguacate.

Mixing onion with mashed avocado with lime juice and salt.
    • Add diced onion, garlic, jalapeno, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
    • Mix to combine, adjust salt to taste, and set aside.

To make it less spicy, swap out jalapeno for bell peppers.

    Prevent Guacamole from Turning Brown

    • To prevent the guacamole from turning brown, add lime juice and store with the avocado seed.
    • OR, cover with a layer of plastic wrap. Press down so it touches the top of the guacamole. Remove plastic and serve.

🌶️ How to Make Pico de Gallo

Mixing tomato, cilantro and onion ingredients with lime juice.
    • Add tomatoes, onions, jalapeño peppers, and cilantro to a bowl.
    • Add lime juice and season with salt.
    • Mix, adjust salt to taste and set aside.

This is a basic pico de gallo, or as many people in Mexico call it “salsa bandera.”

Change it up with Mango Pico de Gallo or Pineapple Pico de Gallo.

    How to Assemble

    Assembling guacamole tostadas.
    • Spread a spoonful of guacamole on a tostada.
    • Add some black beans (about 2 tbsp), lettuce, and pico de gallo on top.
    • Drizzle with Mexican crema (or sour cream).
    • Repeat until no more tostadas.

Swap out the black beans to make a Pinto Bean Tostada instead.

Look for tostadas near the corn tortillas or Hispanic section of your grocery store, or make tostada shells at home.

    🙋🏻‍♀️ Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between a tostaguac and a tostada?

A Tostada is like the blank canvas of the Mexican culinary world—it’s a crispy, fried corn tortilla that’s just waiting to be dressed up. Tostada’s cool cousin (from the trendy side of the family) is a tostaguac. It’s a variation of a Tostada but with guacamole and various toppings.

What’s the difference between a chalupa and a tostada?

Think of a chalupa as a tostada but with curves—a puffed-up, boat-like tortilla. Meanwhile, the tostada is a flat crisp corn tortilla, cool, and straightforward. One’s a yacht, the other’s a surfboard! 🚢🏄‍♀️

Is a tostada just a flat taco?

A tostada is just a laid-back taco, but flat! Picture a crispy corn tortilla, all dressed up with refried beans, cheese, salsa, and more.
