    Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make a strawberry jalapeno margarita labeled and sitting on a marble surface.

    For the Cocktail:

    • Chopped fresh strawberries
    • Fresh Jalapeño slices (seeds removed)
    • Agave nectar or simple syrup
    • Silver tequila
    • Fresh lime juice

    For the rim:

    • Lime zest
    • Sugar

This spicy cocktail is a twist on the classic margarita. It’s perfect for Cinco de Mayo or any Taco Tuesday.

Pairing the sweetness of strawberries with the kick of jalapeños, this spicy margarita recipe is the perfect refreshing cocktail for any Mexican meal.

    Instructions

Strawberries, jalapenos, and more ingredients being placed inside a metal cocktail shaker.
    • In a shaker, add sliced strawberries, 2 slices of jalapeño, agave, blanco tequila, and lime juice.

Here, we’re using fresh strawberries. Yes, you can use frozen strawberries. In fact, frozen strawberries will be easier to muddle.

Muddling strawberry and jalapeños in a cocktail shaker.
    • Muddle strawberries and jalapeños until perfectly mashed.
    • Add ice and shake well for about 10 to 15 seconds.

How can I make this cocktail less spicy?

You can reduce the spiciness by using fewer jalapeño slices or removing the seeds before muddling. Start with 1 jalapeño slice, then add more until you get to your desired spice level.

A hand rubbing lime on the rim of a glass and dipping it into salt.
    • For the rim, mix sugar and lime zest.
    • Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge and dip the glass into the mixture.

Customize your rim: Experiment with your salt rim. Add some lime zest, Tajin, chili powder, or chamoy for an extra flavor kick.

If making this for a party, chill your glasses before serving to help keep the cocktail cold.

    • Fill the glass with ice.
    • Using a strainer, pour the drink into the glass. Top with fresh strawberries and the remaining jalapeno slices, for garnish.

    Pro Tips:

Use high-quality tequila: A good margarita requires great tequila. A good rule of thumb is to use your favorite tequila – one you’d also enjoy sipping on its own.

Fresh is best: Whenever possible, use fresh strawberries and freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor.

Always taste as you mix. Everyone’s sweetness and heat tolerance is different.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What if I don’t have simple syrup?

You can make your own by heating equal parts sugar and water until the sugar dissolves. Allow it to cool before using it in your cocktail. Some people will add triple sec or another orange liqueur to sweeten the flavor profile.

I’m making this for a party. What should I serve it with?

Any Mexican recipe like tacos, chips, guacamole. Even spicy Asian or Indian food would pair well with this cocktail.

I don’t have a cocktail shaker. What can I use instead?

A mason jar with a lid works just as well.

    How to Make a Pitcher

Let’s say you get ten glasses of 10-ounce servings per pitcher.

    • Use 3 ¾ cups strawberries (or 1 ½ cups strawberry juice), 1 sliced jalapeno, ⅔ cup agave nectar, 2 ½ cup tequila, ½ cup lime juice.
    • Muddle the jalapeno, strawberries, and lime juice. Strain the jalapeno-strawberry mixture into a pitcher along with the rest of the ingredients. Stir and serve into prepared glasses with ice.

However, for a party, I highly suggest using 1 ½ cup strawberry juice instead of fresh strawberries as that is easier. Muddle the jalapeno with the lime juice. Strain into a pitcher. Pour in the remaining ingredients. Stir right before serving. Taste for good measure.
