Summer Kids Food Art

My Little Red can be a picky eater. I blame me. I support his picky eating habits. I believe that life is too short to eat bad food. There are very few things that give you immediate gratification like food. He has heard me say this over and over again. I guess I created my own mealtime mess.

This is what I hear…
“Mommy, I don’t like this.”
“You don’t expect me to eat this?”
“Ugh. What’s that?”

Sigh…

It’s not like I’m giving the kid caterpillars to eat. I’ve actually had them. They’re crunchy and bitter. Ok, that’s a different story.

A collage showing the food made for a pirate party.

My son can’t survive on chicken nuggets alone. The solution to my problem: food art! Not only will he eat it, but he will experiment with different foods. You can just imagine the stories and the games during dinner. Lots of fun!

I recently posted about his Pirate Party with all the Disney Junior characters. Little Red is a big Disney fan. He had such a blast! Reminds me of being una niña, and my mom always brushing my hair. What’s up with Mexican moms always wanting their kids to be clean? I must be the exception. iQue corran y disfrutan!

Here’s more of some of the food art I created that day:

Hand holding an orange wedge topped with a pirate flag.

Orange Pirate Boats

Do you see how the sail is folded? I’m known for my one liners. Inside, there was a joke.

What kind of fish do pirates eat? Goldfish.

Alright, I’ll tell you another one.. since you insist. 🙂

Why do pirates where eye patches? Because they can’t afford iPads.

Island Food Art made with apples, bananas and grapes

We live on Coronado Island. We call ourselves the “Islanders.” Boats and a ferry. Sailing and sea gulls. The Jake and the Neverland Pirates live on Coronado, according to my son. Kids and their imagination. LOVE IT! Peanut butter was the glue that held down the banana slices.

Fish lunch made with fish, cucumber and cheetos

This is a good one just for summer or while watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates on Disney Junior. The fish is a quesadilla, lettuce, and cucumbers. My son is not a cucumber fan, but he ate these.

What kind of fun food art do you make for your kids?
