These crunchy Tostones chips come from green plantains that get smashed and fried until golden brown. They make a tasty side dish or snack that’s simply irresistible.

  • Peel the plantains, then slice into 1 inch thick pieces.
  • Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan over medium heat.
  • Add the plantain and fry them for about 4-5 minutes until golden.
  • Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel.
  • Use the back of a cup to flatten each plantain.
  • The flattened plantains need to be fried a second time until golden brown.
  • Fry for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from the oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Sprinkle with salt and serve.

Notes

Best Oil For Frying
For frying, opt for oils with high smoke points and a neutral flavor. Such as canola oil, vegetable oil, and peanut oil.
What is the difference between fried plantains and tostones?
Tostones are slices of green, unripened plantains that are fried, smashed, and then fried again until they’re crispy and golden. Fried plantains are made with yellow, ripened plantains and fried.
