Mexican Burger

This Mexican Burger is packed with bold, delicious flavor in every bite. It’s loaded with juicy beef, spicy seasonings, and all your favorite toppings. Perfect for cookouts, game day, or Cinco de Mayo.

Ingredients

Hamburger Patties:

Toppings:

  • 6 cheese slices monterey jack or pepper jack
  • 6 teaspoon mayo
  • 3 teaspoon ketchup
  • 3 teaspoon mustard
  • 6 ham slices
  • 6 hot dogs slice in half
  • ¼ head lettuce separate the leaves
  • 1 ½ tomatoes sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • salsa (as desired)
  • pickled jalapenos (as desired)

Instructions

For The Hamburger Patties:

  • In a large mixing bowl, place the ground beef, crackers, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, cumin, and oregano.
  • Mix well until the meat mixture is well combined. (Do not overmix)
  • Divide the meat into equal parts. About 6 big balls, or 12 small balls.
  • Then press the meat down into even disk patties.
  • Place the patties on wax paper.
  • To create an even form, you can press down each patty with a smash press (as in picture).
  • Preheat the grill or a skillet to medium heat. (Approximately 375-400 degrees F.)
  • See cooking times guideline below.
  • For thick patties: Grill or fry the patties for 4 ½ to 5 minutes per side, for medium well.
  • For thin patties: Cook on the griddle for 4 minutes per side, for medium well.
  • One minute before removing from the heat, place a slice of cheese on the patty to melt.
  • Once cooked, place the hamburger patties on a baking dish and cover with foil.
  • Slice the hotdogs in half. Cook them for 2 minutes on each side.
  • Place the ham slices on the grill/ griddle and cook for 1 minute on each side.
  • Toast the buns. 1 minute on each side.

To Assemble:

  • Place the hamburger on one bun.
  • Slather mayo, mustard, ketchup on one side of the bun.
  • Add the toppings - tomato, lettuce, onion, jalapenos, and salsa.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe makes 6 big burgers, or press them down with a smash press to make 12 thin burgers. 
⏰ Cooking Time
    • Rare: Cook for 4 minutes total (125°F). 
    • Medium-Rare: Cook for 5 minutes total (135°F). 
    • Medium: Cook for 6-7 minutes total (145°F). 
    • Well-Done: Cook for 8-9 minutes total (160°F).
What kind of cheese should I use? Monterey jack, pepper jack, or even queso Oaxaca are great choices. Pick something that melts well.
Storing and Reheating Instructions
  • It is best to store the ingredients separately until ready to assemble. Cooked burger patties will last up to 4 days in the fridge.
  • Or, place in a sealable plastic bag, remove as much air as possible and store in the freezer for up to 4 months.
  • When ready to eat, simply reheat the patty, hot dogs, and ham slices. Make your burger and enjoy!
