Cactus and pineapple smoothie

INGREDIENTS

Pineapple Cactus Ground tumeric Orange juice or water

01

I use an oven mitt to handle the nopal. You can also use a plastic bag. There are special mittens as well.

Start with fresh cactus

02

Place the nopal on a clean surface. Hold the end of the nopal and cut around the nopal, removing the sides. Using a sharp knife, carefully remove the thorns.

Take off the thorns

03

Cut perpendicular to the slices to create diced nopales. Many stores sell them already diced and packaged.

Slice the cactus pad

04

It has slime coming out. We call it "baba." However, you won't have the slime in this smoothie, but if it has slime, drain it.

Drain the cactus slime

05

Pineapple is low in calories, high in water content, and high in fiber. If you have never tried cactus before, add more pineapple than cactus.

Chop the pineapple

06

Some people will use water to blend this smoothie, but I add freshly squeezed orange juice. It adds a level of sweetness that I love.

Squeeze the orange juice

07

Add everything, nopales, pineapple, and orange juice into the blender and blend until smooth.

Blend until smooth

08

Enjoy this yummy and healthy Licuado de nopal. A delicious cactus drink you'll love.
