Masa harina Warm water Salt Refried beans

Prepare the masa

Add salt to the harina, then add warm water.

Mix well

Mix until you have a texture like wet sand, and form a ball with the masa dough.

Form a thick tortilla

Press the dough and pat it just like gorditas, but don’t make it too thin. It will look like a thick tortilla and can cover your hand.

Fill the tlacoyos

Add about a tablespoon of refried beans to the center of the masa and fold over the ends to seal up, like an empanada.

Form an oval shape

Carefully, start to pat it and form an oval-shaped masa. Be very gentle with this or the beans will come out.

Cook them

Place the tlacoyos on the hot griddle and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side.

Add your favorite topping!
