Atole de Avena

Atole de Avena is a creamy Mexican oatmeal drink. This extra cozy sipper will keep you warm when nights are cold.

Instructions

  • Boil the water with the cinnamon stick for 5 minutes.
  • Blend the oatmeal with 2 cups of milk.
  • Add the oatmeal milk to the pot with the cinnamon stick.
  • Add the rest of the milk, vanilla, and sugar.
  • Lower heat to medium.
  • Cook for 15 minutes.
  • Stir constantly so it won't stick.
  • Remove cinnamon stick before serving.
  • Pour into a cup and enjoy!

Notes

What Kind of Milk to Use:
  • Whole milk
  • 2% milk
  • Soy milk
  • Almond milk
  • Evaporated milk
Whatever type of milk you like and prefer, you can easily adjust this recipe to your preferences. 
These are old fashioned oats but you can also use quick oats. 
Brown sugar also makes a good addition to this recipe. If using, add a spoonful at the end when serving.
