The old police station in San Diego received a serious makeover. It is now home to the new Headquarters next to Seaport Village, featuring top notch restaurants and fun shops. I recently spent a day there, touring the new grounds.
We started our tour at Puesto. It is a chic, industrial, and open restaurant, showcasing great margaritas and tasty tacos. The “Baja” taco was my favorite- well seasoned and with a nice spicy kick.
Aaron Chang Ocean Art Gallery
We met the artist himself. Aaron Chang spoke briefly, sharing his views on art and his love for our classy city. His pictures are brilliant, aren’t they? PS: they are also extremely affordable.
Visit with your girlfriends after a few drinks at Puesto. Tons of odds and ends, unusual finds. It’s the shop to buy the perfect gift for the person who has everything. Or maybe a good gag gift. I’m team wine, but surely you already knew that. 😉
What a classy store! Handbags, leather goods, wallets- a great place to shop for unique gifts. I found this fun book- The History of Smuggling. A little reminder that we were in the old San Diego police station. I was left impressed by their romantic, French-style dressing room. Try something on and check it out.
Making small businesses bigger. Here you will find locally grown, made, and/ or produced all in San Diego. I found this cool little police car there with a Christmas tree on top.
Season 52 (pictures above)
An elegant piano playing smooth jazz, mahony cabinetry enclosing a well-stocked wine cellar and throughout the restaurant. It is truly amazing to believe that this used to house the old police garage- the oil is gone, the cars are gone. Instead, you’ll find yummy flatbread- I highly recommend the garlic pesto flatbread. Nine little dessert treats (on the right) only 250 calories each! Definitely not sharing dessert.
In Tiffany’s blue and elegant displays, I sampled their salted caramel chocolate. I’m only sorry I didn’t take two samples.
Don’t you love receiving beautiful cards? I always feel so special when something is beautifully wrapped, and the card is made of a rich texture, personalized just for me. Thick wrapping paper, cute finds, butterflies dangling in the window display. Love it!
For the penny-pinching fashionista, this store has something for everything. Handbags, accessories, great tops. It’s laid out in such a way that you, your mom, and your 16-year-old daughter will all find something. The best part: extremely affordable prices.
Venissimo Cheese (pictures above)
I died and went to cheese heaven. They served us some wonderful bites. One of my favorite eats of the day- cinnamon apple butter, a creamy Delice de Bourgogne topped with a cherry, sitting on a slice of baguette. The store offers an impressive selection of rare cheese to create the perfect charcuterie.
Pizzeria Mozza (pictures above)
The highly anticipated restaurant by Food Network’s Mario Batalli. A warm, cozy restaurant reminiscent of his TV show. The crust on the two pizzas from the woodfired oven were excellent. Mario, you never seize to amaze me.
NOTE: We didn’t hit all the stores. Yes, there are more. Valet is only $10 which is only slightly more if you self-park. To see more of my pictures of the Headquarters: check out my INSTAGRAM
