I have an older friend in my little beach town of Coronado who LOVES Moscato. She often invites me over to her house after a long day in my kitchen for a glass of wine. I know what it is she sees in me. I’m the young gal who writes about wine. Someone fun to hang out with, telling her stories of dinners and wine events in downtown San Diego. I always have a good time with her, but sometimes I start wondering about the reverse: Me as an older woman searching for memories of my youth. YIKES! I haven’t hit 40 yet, but it’s creeping on me faster than I want it to.
When Freixnet sent me a bottle of their Mia Moscato sparkling wine, I thought of my older friend. She would truly enjoy this. They only sent me a small bottle, and when my friend and I finished it, we wanted more. Regardless, the size is perfect for a small toast on the beach with your loved one or for a quiet New Years Eve celebration at home.
Mia Sparkling Moscato
This wine is the result of the brilliant Spanish winemaker Gloria Collell. It is a fruity, sweet wine with floral notes and apricot flavors. It is nicely balanced. There’s a soft delicate acidity – delicious and bubbly finish. It would make a good celebration wine, but sometimes just having a wine like Mia Sparkling Moscato is a celebration all on its own. A good pairing for this wine would be a citrusy dessert like a lemon meringue pie, but it’s not overly sweet where you can also pair it with cheeses. We had it just as is, cheering the night away with a view of the San Diego skyline from Coronado Island.
