I popped into BevMo the other day because they were having their 5 cent sale. I’m a sucker for a good bargain. Who isn’t, right? The problem with a sale like that: what to buy? The choices were endless. I went up and down the aisles, inspecting and mulling over what to take home. This might not have been such an issue for normal people, but I’m sure you all know by now that I’m not a normal gal. Most of the time, I purchase my wines online, a box arrives, and I’m in happy wine land. That day, I bought Main and Geary Chardonnay 2013.
Chardonnay is hands down the world’s most famous white wine grape. California being one of its top producers, and that is partly why I chose Main and Geary Chardonnay 2013. I’ve rarely been disappointed with Sonoma chardonnays. It’s not my first wine of choice, but every now and then, I will go back and visit my old flame, Chardonnay. She always greets me with wine opener arms and beautiful, subtle notes. She is such an alluring lover, but I have commitment issues. I can’t be a monogamous wine drinker.
Main and Geary Chardonnay 2013($17.99)
It has a beautiful golden hue. On the bouquet, it is on the sweeter side with notes of lemons and pineapple. I loved the silky and buttery texture. The tropical flavors really stand out in this wine. There are small hints of vanilla. It is not an oaky chardonnay, and much more on the softer side than I anticipated. I prefer my chardonnays with a bit more oak, but overall, it is a good wine for under $20. It is an even bigger steal if you buy an extra bottle for just a nickle. I would pair this a chicken alfredo pasta or pork tenderloin.
Cheers! Santé ! Salud!
