Fifteen years ago, no one would ever imagine eating in South Park. Now, the area is home to several hot restaurants and cool bars. At the forefront of this area’s restaurant movement is Alchemy. With an eclectic design, it features a large metal tree twisted in the center of the restaurant. Menu options by Executive Chef Ricardo Heredia include a grass fed beef burger with manchego cheese and quinoa hush puppies. Let’s not forget an impressive wine list with over 100 different bottles of wine. For the non-wine drinkers, you can find local, San Diego craft beers and fun, inventive cocktail mixes. Named as one of the top 10 restaurants of 2013 by San Diego Magazine, Alchemy is a neighborhood favorite. This week, it is celebrating its 5th birthday with a party on March 20th at 7:30.
At the 5th anniversary party, you will get a tray of passed bites along with a taco station for only $10. Glasses of Tapeña Wines and Mia Wines and Spirits International will be available for only $5. Alchemy never lets us down with their great prices.
Here are some other Alchemy favorites:
Steakhouse cut ($28)
This is an Alchemy must-try. 14-ounce rib eye served with jammy bone marrow and delicate fleur de sel. Think of bone marrow as a savory jam. It will be love at first bite.
Fried Pickles ($5)
Pickles cured at Alchemy then covered in corn meal before frying. It is served with rich buttermilk dressing. The zest of the pickles make this is a dish to be shared, but then again, no one ever complains about leftovers, do they?
The farm-to-table dishes are reasonably priced to attract diners away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. For catering, you can order a suckling pig or a chicken meal. Check out their website for happy hour times. I highly recommend the Alchemist Mule. For more details on the 5th anniversary party, contact the restaurant. Happy Birthday, Alchemy!
